Thursday - September 13th

Friday - September 14th

  • AM/PM: FSU Appalachian Festival Symposium; Frostburg State University 101 Braddock Rd.
  • 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM: Maryland Relay Meet & Greet Open House, Maryland Relay Center, One Science Park. Take a tour and learn how Telecommunications Relay Services allows almost anyone in the world to communicate with individuals with speech or hearing loss through the telephone.     • The “Kids Zone” will feature games from 1812, photo opportunities with historic figures, inflatable games, balloon tying, face painting and many other family activities. In addition, the Frostburg Fire Department will showcase a highly equipped fire engine and fireman’s protective gear.
    • We have added new and exciting adult activities to our Festival. Come zip down our 18 foot Super Slide or challenge others in (Big Glove Boxing). Here opponents bounce around in an inflatable boxing ring struggling to lift their gloves and connect. The over sized gloves combined with the inflatable floor become a clumsy, laugh-out-loud, entertaining spectacle. Hilarious to watch for spectators as it is for participants.

    We are partnering with local churches, vendors, restaurants, brewers, non profits, and artists to create an event that is uniquely Frostburg.

    The proceeds from this event will be donated to the Bobby Preston Memorial Fund to assist in the construction of an outdoor amphitheater and honor wall at the Glendening Recreation Complex in Frostburg.
  • 9:00 PM—Midnight: The Queen’s Ball, The Frostburg Elks Lodge 470, 126 E. Main. Dance to the 50’s & 60’s live sounds of the Chinese Bandits. Witness the crowning of the 2012 Bicentennial Queen and Court by Barbara Layman Stein, 1962 Sesquicentennial Queen. Contestants aged 21 and older are asked to submit a 500-1000 word essay entitled “Big-Time Story from a Small-Town Girl”. Semi-formal attire, cash bar & limited seating only, $5.00 per person.

  • 1:00 pm - 1:00 am Sunday: A Blast from the Past: Enjoy the diverse collection of Frostburg’s bars, clubs, and restaurants by participating in a trivia contest- scavenger hunt. Ride the free trolley to 17 different venues, each celebrating a decade in Frostburg’s history with a variety of music, decorations, costumes, and contests. View movies from the 80’s, toss some horseshoes, taste a Diamond Burger, or even pick up a Bicentennial cup as you visit with old friends in the Mountain City.   • Western Maryland Scenic Railroad Train: Train One departs Cumberland 10:30 AM, arrives Frostburg 11:30 AM, departs for return to Cumberland at 3:00 PM. Train Two (Murder Mystery) departs Cumberland 6:00 PM and departs Frostburg at 8:00 PM for return to Cumberland.
